More than 150 Wattsun batteries power Belgium’s largest carnival parade

Carnival in Aalst is Belgium’s largest and most renowned carnival parade. For three days, the city is entirely dedicated to celebration, spectacle, and impressive parade floats. With 370 groups, 5,000 participants, and more than 50,000 visitors, the impact is enormous. Including in terms of energy consumption.

Silent and clean energy during Carnival in the City of Aalst

This year, the City of Aalst deliberately chose a more sustainable approach. More than 150 Wattsun battery modules were deployed to power the carnival floats. The battery systems were rented through Boels and were visible throughout the parade.

Batteries instead of generators

While most carnival floats traditionally run on diesel generators, Aalst increasingly opted for mobile battery systems. Many floats were equipped with Wattsun Stacks, delivering reliable, emission free power. And perhaps even more important during carnival: significantly less noise around the floats.

That makes a world of difference. For participants. For local residents. And for the crowd eager to enjoy music, spectacle, and atmosphere without the constant hum of generators in the background.

Encouraging sustainable energy at events

Bart Van den Neste, Alderman responsible for energy and climate in the City of Aalst, has a special connection to the event. Twenty six years ago, he was Prince Carnival himself and he remains a passionate carnival supporter. From this dual perspective, he is committed to securing the future of the celebration.

According to Van den Neste, the city aims to actively encourage carnival groups to use energy more consciously. That is why the City of Aalst offers Wattsun battery systems with financial support. Groups pay only half of the costs, making the switch from generator to battery accessible and affordable.

In this way, the city promotes the use of batteries instead of generators, making Carnival more environmentally friendly step by step.

Wattsun x Boels: scalable mobile power solutions

Thanks to the collaboration with Boels, the mobile batteries could be easily rented and widely deployed. In total, more than 150 battery modules operated during the event. A powerful example of how sustainable power supply can be applied at scale at festivals, city celebrations, and other events. From construction site to city center. From festival to carnival float.

With silent, emission free, and mobile energy solutions, Wattsun makes sustainable events possible.
