Wattsun® x Van Gelder

Van Gelder Groep transforms all site huts into self-sufficient site huts with the help of Wattsun. Evert Mekking, Head of the Equipment Service, explains why he chose Wattsun several years ago and how this innovative energy solution has changed their approach.

Sustainable site huts

Leading infrastructure company Van Gelder transforms all lunchrooms into self-sufficient mobile lunchrooms with the help of Wattsun’s sustainable energy solutions. The challenge was to find a sustainable and efficient energy solution suitable for construction & infrastructure that was both ecologically and economically advantageous. Evert Mekking, Head of the Equipment Service, looked for a way to reduce dependence on traditional energy sources and increase operational efficiency.

Impact

The implementation of Wattsun’s portable battery systems transformed the workflow of Van Gelder Groep. The switch to these sustainable batteries eliminated the need for gasoline and gas, resulting in significant cost savings and a reduced ecological footprint.

Mekking emphasizes the convenience of this transition: “The guys working with it forgot where the power came from. They could just make coffee in the morning until the battery was empty after a few days.” This change not only promoted sustainability but also improved safety and usability on the work site.

Ecologically and economically advantageous

Mekking emphasizes the importance of this approach: “now that it’s economically more attractive, we are all really on the right track. economically responsible and good for the environment. why wouldn’t you do it?” combining such technology with renewable energy sources, such as solar panels, is the next step in achieving a fully sustainable operation.

It is possible to combine economic efficiency with ecological responsibility, leading to a win-win situation for both the company and the environment.

Looking ahead to the future, mekking discusses the possibility of self-sufficient management cabins with wattsun. “we are jointly exploring the energy needs and peak moments, so we can generate our own energy there as well with a hybrid generator with solar panels. that should be the next step in our commitment to sustainability.”
